This assessment combines input from a number of perspectives to look at the whole church as an interconnected ecosystem or, picking up on biblical language, a “body” in which prayerful preaching is the heart pumping the life-giving blood of the gospel to all the organs and limbs. Bible teaching shapes and steers all the ministries of the church:

A key insight of “body-thinking” is the recognition that dysfunction in one area is often caused by or causes dysfunction in another area. In the human body there can be ‘secondary dysfunction’ where a back ache is caused by a knee problem; or ‘referred pain’ where a headache is caused by neck tension. A problem of low enthusiasm and low effectiveness in one ministry might not be solved simply by focusing on that particular ministry - it might result from problems in another ministry or wrong/lacking convictions. Commonly there are multiple factors. And we should also be aware that in addressing one area – moving resources to focus on one ministry – there will inevitably be an impact on other ministries. This tool slows us down to diagnose carefully and not oversimplify or rush to treatment.
